Once, this was the paradise for all backpackers. They just added up grande in the recent year. The property has changed a lot since I first saw in last 5 or six years. They have built up air-conditioned bungalow lining at the beachfront. From all the resorts in White Sand beach, KC grandes got the nicest sandy beach.
After years, they have moved all the ramshackle hut and put in place all the concrete bungalow. At this moment, whom what I have seen last couple months, there were about ten left. Prices here are going up as there has been more demand than what the resort can supply in term of accommodations.
There is one restaurant and one very very small swimming pool here in the resort. The restaurant provides good Thai food but staffs here can not speak good English. I drove through the resort last week and came to know that they are now building big seminar room. It is planned to complete at the end of October. The beachfront bungalow itself is 3 stars at a big push for the design, concept and architecture work. BUT the attractiveness is when you step your feet out of these bungalows, you are at the same second on the sandy beach. The beach is safe for kids to play, not too crowded like Kacha beach and Banpu beach and it's only a 2 minutes walk to a 7-11 so you don't have to pay beach restaurant prices for a can of coke or an ice cream.
The only downside is that Whitesands is the busiest beach on the island so if you're heading to Koh Chang to get away from things for a while this might not be the best choice of resort.
