Guide to South West

South West is different from the North West and also each beach has its unique character. Klongprao beach is where private resorts and attraction are located. While lonely beach and Kai Bae beach are dotted with bungalows well-known among back packers. To stay on this part of the island is convenient.

Klongprao beach begins from the end of Laem Chaichet. The cove of sandy beach lined with coconut trees is ideal for swimming and sun-bathing. Just step forward from your resorts.

• SERVICES : Klongprao is fairly well service and has numerous facilities that you can enjoy your day at elephant camp or beach activities. The postal service, bank, ATM and several plazas are available along the main road.
• SHOPPING: Like the White Sand Beach , there are shopping plazas and convenient stores. But each spot is far away from the others, not as crowded as White Sand Beach.
• ENTERTAINMENT: Klongplu waterfall, elephant trekking and water-sports such as kayaking, diving could be your day-trip. Some couple love to walk along the shore as it is safe and quiet.
• RESTAURANTS: Most of the resorts on Klongprao beach serve the fine food and opened for the outside guests who walk on the shore as well. However, you may walk out from your resort to taste the Thai food among Thai people in the individual local restaurants which are along the road.
• BARS: Sky Bar is a big in-door pub on the road. On the roadside you can see the karaoke bars where the villagers and some of travelers relax after dark.
• ACCOMMODATION: The number of the resorts on this beach is not as many as White Sand Beach since they are bigger and scattered. Therefore the travelers would feel more privately and peacefully. The resorts are well-decorated in Thai style or modern style and the service standard is upper than the other locations. Most of the resort staff can speak English and may be the third language also.

Next to Klongprao is another perfect spot on the west coast to watch the spectacular sunset with dotted islands on the foreground. Some islands are so close that you may be tempted to invade the sea to reach them. The good news is it’s not totally impossible to do that! At low tide, you can walk at chest-deep level to Koh Man Nai from the beach at the Sea View Resort & Spa Koh Chang.

• SERVICES: Unlike White Sand Beach , there are services as needed, operated by villagers such as salon/barber, ATM. But there is no hospital or bank or post office. However, the newly opened plazas will add more services at Kai Bae Beach- a tailor, tour counters, bars and restaurants.
• SHOPPING: The one spot of shops is opposite to Chang Park resort, also one of a new plaza and a 7-eleven.
• ENTERTAINMENT: A motorbike rental and snorkeling/diving counter should be asked at your resort for more convenient. To go out and around on this beach, a motorbike is recommended. While most of backpackers love to walk along the road to see the high tree and greenery scene and take fresh breathe.
• RESTAURANTS: Chang Park resort proudly presents fresh seafood that you can feature. Also you can drop by an on-beach resorts where offer both delicious food and great view of the sea.
• BARS: Not many as the other beaches, some bars are on the hill, some are on the road. You can drive (not suggest to walk as the road is quite dangerous after dark) to choose your relaxation.
• ACCOMMODATION: Resorts on Kai Bae beach provides privacy and peace. You can contact Koh Chang Cliff Beach Resort, Chang Park Resort, Kai Bae Beach Resort and Sea view Resort for the accommodation. From the resorts you can view Koh Man Nai, Koh Man Nok, Koh Yuak and Koh Suwan.

The way is very steep, curved and dense with forest along the road, so the drivers have to drive carefully. That’s why there is no service or on Lonely beach except the bungalows.

Lonely beach is the best choice for the peace lovers who seek a low-cost accommodation. The beach is like the center point of all backpackers.

The end of the west coast of Koh Chang is Ao Bangbao where is reputable for its fishing village. The residents still lives in houses built on stilts. Houses are connected by wooden bridges. There are a growing number of tourist shops, scuba dive outlets and seafood restaurants. Amidst a grove of coconut trees, new bungalows are rising. Getting to Bang Bao is challenging as the southward road is steep and winding.

SERVICES: ATM, money exchange, tour counters are spouted like mushroom along the bridge to the sea. The village has a health care center (opening-hours: 8.30 am - 4.30 pm , no telephone) and just outside on the road is the school and local temple Wat Bang Bao.

• SHOPPING: Travelers can enjoy shopping on the bridge. The goods range from dried squid, ka-pi (Thai paste), local product, fresh seafood, clothe, water-sport equipment etc.
• ENTERTAINMENT: Bangbao is an important port to boat out to the neighboring islands; therefore, a lot of PADI dive center and snorkeling tour operators open at the village. Also a variety of activities you can ask at the counters such as jungle trekking, squid hunting, boating, speed boat and etc. The variety of trip packages or customized tour can be arranged.
• RESTAURANTS: Everyone knows that if they want to try fresh and delicious seafood with reasonable prices, they have to journey to Bangbao. There are many seafood restaurants offer a rich selection of fresh seafood.
• BARS: As the fantastic scene of the bay presented, the restaurants open until late in the night and turn on the music that you can enjoy with your group.
• ACCOMMODATION: Some of travelers who seek for a home stay can stop here. Because of the clay beach and the rock, few of resorts are built up. Nirvana Resort is the only one on Chong Kao Khad. And there several resorts at the tip of the bay, of which are built in the sea.
